Video: How to Retrieve Songs from iPod

I may not be the norm among iPod users but I never leave any music in my iTunes Library. I don’t like to have my PC loaded up with music I can listen to by simply connecting my iPod. While I do have my songs backed up on an external drive, not having your songs in the iTunes library does create a problem if you are wanting to burn or manage your music. After considering buying software to retrieve music from my iPod I came across this article that explained how to easily manage the task. I found the article a little confusing though, as it jumps between Mac and PC instructions, so I have made an instructional video on how to retrieve your tunes. Follow the link to see how!
I do have to admit there is one major problem with this method of song retrieval. The stupid coded folder and song names! If someone can tell me how ATYC = Afternoon Delight I would be much obliged (that’s right I love me some Starland Vocal Band.) The coded folders/songs also restrict the user from picking what songs they want to move to iTunes. Because you don’t know what song you are moving, you have to move them all to make sure you get the one you want. You can use Windows search to look in subfolders for a key word in a song, but this only works to locate songs in MP3 format and not songs purchased from iTunes. Cue foghorn.
Overall it might be a good idea to leave you songs in your iTunes library for ease of use, but for all you iPod wheeling rebels out there I hope you enjoy the video!

I just had the same problem having lost my music on my hard drive. I backed up from my iPod but then found all the tracks were encrypted ‘ADFY.xxx’. The answer is simple!
a. In iTunes, go to Edit>Prefrences.
b. Under the Advanced tab, check the box “Keep iTunes Music folder organized” and click OK. It will then over-write the ‘ADFY.xxx’ with the real track name.
Hope that helps!

Hahah. I couldn’t even watch the video. I was too busy singing along to Afternoon Delight.
Nicely done.
