My Top 5 Favorite Stouts

There are a few things that define me: Games, Geek, Big, and Irish. It makes sense then, that I would enjoy a richer, darker alcoholic beverage.

Not many people can develop the taste for stout, and even fewer are willing to spring the extra money to get it. To the few who look for something more than a hazy, drunken evening (or morning) in their beer, I salute you.

Number 5: Samual Adams Cream Stout: As far as domestic beer goes, Samual Adams really stands out on producing fine beer. It has a great, slightly creamy flavor, with only a hint of bitter aftertaste.

Number 4: Murphy’s Irish Stout: Murphy’s makes the list for mashing the creaminess of Cream Stout with the roasty Irish Stout flavor.

Number 3: Young’s Oatmeal Stout: One of the most unique tasting stouts I have had. I suggest giving it a try if you’re in the mode for something different.

Number 2: Guinness: WHAT!? Guinness isn’t number one? No, it isn’t my favorite, though I do drink a lot of Guinness. For many, this is the best intro to Stout; not too bitter, not too light on flavor.

Number 1: Beamish Irish Stout: Beamish stout is a great alternative to those who love Guiness, but want something not advertised on chests of drunken college kids. Beamish keeps a fuller flavor than most commercial stouts as well.

Review: Stone Mill Organic Pale Ale

Stone Mill Organic Pale Ale

The neighbors were kind enough to bring over a few beers this weekend. I have never heard of Stone Mill Organic Pale Ale, but who am I to turn down free beer!

Appearance: Amber color that is a bit cloudy. Almost no head.

Smell: A very light, sweet smell.

Taste: Slightly bitter taste, but a pleasantly sweet aftertaste.

Mouth feel: Medium, coarse feel.

Drinkability: Great summer beer for sipping on the back porch.

Chatsquatch’s Rating: I would pay $5.00 for a six pack and feel pretty good with my purchase. Check out the official website and pick up a pack to try for yourself.

If you have tried this beer, leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Cheers!

Beer Brewing Video with Chatsquatch Crew!

It’s finally here. I say finally because it took me forever to edit and upload it. But now you at home can see how fun and easy it is to brew your own beer.

If you are thinking about brewing beer at home, go for it. It’s easy to do and pretty inexpensive. It costs me about $90.00 for everything I needed and only took about 4 hours to make the first batch. If we can do it, I am sure you can do it too!

Feel free to post if you have any questions about brewing your own beer. I will post some links for beer brewing sites on the links page.

Later,
Jason
